10 Most Hated MLB Teams: Baseball’s Most Despised Teams

Who are the most hated MLB teams? Whether it’s jealousy and resentment, a born hatred between baseball rivals, or a hatred born from scandals, these teams can get our blood boiling.

These are the Major League Baseball teams that bring out the worst in us and it’s never our fault, it’s theirs. Let’s take a look at the ten most hated teams in baseball:

10. Oakland Athletics

The tragedy of the A’s is well known with relocation to Las Vegas locked in following decades of financial struggles, Oakland’s small market status and the shocking state of the e Coliseum.

Fans in Oakland hate the team and its owners for deliberately running down the franchise, and baseball fans hate the circus the A’s have come. Before Vegas is a three-year stopover at a minor-league ballpark in Sacramento.

9. Atlanta Braves

Atlanta Braves are much hated by rival fans who root for the Mets and Phillies. Braves fans themselves have hated some of their own players like Melky Cabrera, B.J. Upton and Garret Anderson.

The five NL pennants during the 90s and a record 14 consecutive division titles beginning in 1991 spurred on a generation of fans hating and resenting the Braves success.

8. Philadelphia Phillies

Philadelphia sports fans have a horrible reputation in the NFL and the NBA. Although they aren’t as bad as Eagles and 76ers fans, the Phillies are still one of the most hated MLB teams.

Guilty by association, Philadelphia fans are l loud and obnoxious. Can you blame them though? The Phillies have the most all-time losses of any major league team.

7. New York Mets

The Mets have traditionally played little brother in New York which means they don’t have as many haters. Steve Cohen then injected cash and gave the Mets one of the highest payrolls in sports.

That meant that the hate for the Mets extended beyond Cardinals, Dodgers, Phillies, Braves and Yankees fans as others looked on with envy with the players they could attract.

6. Houston Astros

The Astros immediately became one of the most hated MLB teams after the sign stealing scandal came to light in 2019. The Astros were caught using a video camera system to steal signs from opposing teams in 2017 and 2018.

The Astros also have one of the largest payrolls in the league and have brought in players like Justin Verlander, Michael Brantley and Gerrit Cole on astronomical salaries.

5. San Francisco Giants

It’s not just Oakland baseball fans and Dodgers fans that hate the Giants. They’re major league’s winningest franchise, and it’ll hurt fans from the other side of the San Francisco Bay with the A’s relocation to Las Vegas.

Oracle Park is a masterpiece and is one of the best MLB stadiums. Superstars such as Barry Bonds and Willie Mays have been watched by opposition fans in awe, with their payroll the envy of many teams.

4. Los Angeles Dodgers

LA is home to the glitz and glamour of the Dodgers, a perennial powerhouse with a rich history that is the envy of most teams. Seven World Series championships won’t make you popular with the opposition.

The Dodgers have had an endless ability to stack their rosters so deep in free agency à la Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani, making them one of the most hated MLB teams.

3. Chicago Cubs

Everybody felt sorry for the Chicago Cubs having to contend with the “Curse of the Billy Goat” and a 108-year World Series drought that loomed over the franchise and generations of fans.

Since the Cubs lost the “loveable loser” tag, the already loud and sometimes obnoxious fan base became cocky and were joined by bandwagon supporters who finally decided to jump onboard.

2. Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox were once the darlings of baseball until the “Curse of the Bambino” was broken in 2004. Since then, they’ve gone from strength to strength and suddenly Boston fans suddenly have the audacity to gloat.

A high payroll will always mean that the Red Sox can attract some of Major League Baseball’s best players. We all also have the fact that the Celtics, Bruins Patriots and Red Sox are all darn good teams.

1. New York Yankees

The New York Yankees are the undisputed most hated team in the MLB. Yankees fans are ranked as the most arrogant, worst behaved, most likely to complain and the most annoying fan base.

Winning 27 World Series championships across multiple dynasty’s has fueled much hatred and jealousy over the years towards the Yankees. Their ability to attract the biggest names to New York just makes things worse.
