10 Most Popular MLB Teams: Can Anyone Beat the Yankees?

We’re here to announce the most popular MLB teams who’ve all built a legacy of legendary players and cultural traditions like no other.

There are currently 30 Major League Baseball teams with room for MLB expansion – 29 teams in America and one team in Canada. Here’s the ten most popular teams:

10. Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves are one of the most popular MLB teams largely because they’re the only team in Georgia. There are no rival teams in Alabama, South Carolina or Tennessee so the fan market is completely owned by the Braves.

Atlanta is also the most popular destination for MLB free agents and have been successful on the field with a record divisional title haul. There’s also an aura around Truist Park with both players and fans getting swept up by the atmosphere.

9. Minnesota Twins

The beloved baseball team of the Twin Cities, the Twins have had a successful and wholesome history highlighted by winning the 1991 World Series after finishing last the season before.

Twins fans are regarded as both passionate and courteous highlighted by the Twins Community Fund – the franchise’s charity arm supporting local youth baseball and softball programs funding millions of dollars.

8. New York Mets

It can’t be easy playing “little brother” to the Yankees. According to one poll, Yankees fans outnumber Mets fans two-to-one. With that said the Mets are one of the most popular MLB teams in their own right.

When the Giants and Dodgers left New York for California in 1958, most fans converted to the Mets in their inaugural season in 1962. If you’re a fan of the blue-collar and tasteful underdog, the Mets are your team.

7. San Francisco Giants

With a history dating back to 1883 the Giants have the most wins in American major sports history. Since moving from New York to San Francisco in 1957 the Giants have continued a culture of success, legendary players and a passionate fan base.

The fourth iteration of the Polo Grounds was one of the most beloved ballparks with oddities like its horseshoe shape. It created one of the shortest foul lines and longest center fields ever. Today, the Giants play at Oracle Park which offers stunning views of San Francisco Bay.

6. Los Angeles Dodgers

Like the Giants, the Dodgers relocated from New York in 1958 to California. Playing out of Dodgers Stadium since 1962 it’s one of the America’s most iconic ballparks with views of the surrounding Los Angeles hills.

The fan base of the Dodgers is widespread not only across Central and Southern California but across much of Latin America. There’s also a strong kinship between those wearing baseball caps with the “LA” insignia.

5. Philadelphia Phillies

Philly sports fans are naturally passionate and straight out rowdy, perhaps a little too crazy according to some. Dating back to 1883 the Phillies remain the oldest continuous single-name and single-city team in American pro sports.

Traditions remain such as the ringing of a replica Liberty Bell and a live bald eagle being flown around the ballpark. The Phillies hold the record for most ever losses by a pro sports team but fans

4. St. Louis Cardinals

The “Cardinal Way” is the philosophy in which St. Louis plays – smart and hard. It’s also part of the culture which sees fans applauding and appreciating good baseball no matter which team it is.

Cardinals fans are often regarded as the best fans in baseball because of their beliefs and the way they behave. The franchise is also the most successful in the National League and behind only the Yankees in terms of most World Series wins.

3. Boston Red Sox

Founded in 1901 the Boston Red Sox are one of the oldest and most popular MLB teams. Fans are among the most passionate and loyal in America and they all rode out an 86-year title drought which ended in 2004.

Many baseball fans share an affinity with the Red Sox because of their fierce rivalry with the Yankees. Fans from The Bronx will tell you that fans from Boston are obnoxious. Rivalries aside, Boston’s Fenway Park remains one of the most iconic stadiums in the world with features such as the Green Monster, Pesky’s Pole and a manual scoreboard.

2. Chicago Cubs

Arguably one of the most iconic baseball teams with the most loyal fans, the Chicago Cubs drew affection from fans worldwide because of the Cubs unbroken history of failure which only ended after winning the 2016 World Series ending a 108-year title drought.

The history of the franchise goes back to 1876 and Wrigley Field to 1916, with the ballpark’s iconic historical features including brick outfield walls covered in ivy and a hand operated scoreboard still in use today.

1. New York Yankees

Even those most fair weather baseball fans will know that the New York Yankees are the most popular MLB team. A winning culture dating back to 1903 has delivered a record 27 World Series championships and a legion of bandwagon fans.

With successful brings the haters and rival fans will tell you of the distasteful arrogance of Yankees fans. When you’ve had legends such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and Derek Jeter on your side, who wouldn’t be?
